Top stars at BAMBI 2011

Big moments are already guaranteed on the BAMBI stage, absolute top stars are expected at Wiesbaden’s Rhein-Main-Hallen: Lady Gaga is receiving the Golden Deer in the "Pop International" category and Justin Bieber is being honoured in the "Entertainment" category. And TV icon Thomas Gottschalk is being presented with a BAMBI in the capital of Hesse.

This is the second time in the 60-odd years of the BAMBI that the ceremony is being held in Wiesbaden. Whereas the 44th BAMBI in 1991 was held on a modest scale in the Kurhaus, the 2011 show’s venue will be the Rhein-Main-Hallen with over 800 guests invited. Das Erste will televise the event live from Wiesbaden.

On the November 10th, Lady Gaga will receive Germany's most coveted media prize in the International Pop category, and will perform one of her hit singles on the BAMBI stage.
Among the jurors' comments: “Lady Gaga is the most successful pop artist out there today; the queen of self-invention and a cultural phenomenon.  The fans love her music, columnists review her videos, and professors are researching her influence on our culture.  The artistic synthesis that is Lady Gaga is comprised not only of the songs that she composes and produces herself, but of her eccentric performances and videos, which she personally directs down to the tiniest detail.  For her stage productions she draws inspiration from fashion and cultural history, becoming thereby an inspirtaion for others – not least for her fans.

BAMBI 2011 will also be welcoming a further global star to Wiesbaden: Justin Bieber is to receive the Golden Deer in the Entertainment category. He's a breaker of teenage hearts – and he's only a teenager himself: The BAMBI 2011 in the Entertainment category goes to Justin Bieber.  The 17 year old is the first international star to come out of the internet.

From the jurors' comments: “Justin Bieber is idolised by the internet generation.  It was the net that brought him fame.  His success isn't down to a manager or a record company, but to home videos that he uploaded to YouTube three years ago.  Today he has millions of fans, his pop songs have conquered the charts, and he can call himself an international superstar at the age of just 17. The mere mention of his name is often enough to induce screaming fits among young girls. With all the hype, there's no denying that we're dealing with an extremely talented musician, song-writer and entertainer: Justin Bieber plays four instruments, has a remarkable soul voice and is a brilliant dancer.”

The BAMBI 2011 in the “TV Event of the Year” category goes to Thomas Gottschalk. He is the king of the Saturday evening show and a constant guarantor of success. The BAMBI jury’s reasons: “Thomas Gottschalk’s success with ‘Wetten dass ..?’ is unique. It is because of him that families sit down in front of the TV on Saturday evening. He doesn’t need a script and doesn’t play a role; viewers sense that and appreciate it. Gottschalk relies on himself and his respect for his guests. He has the talent to deliver spontaneous punchlines and the instinct for the right words at the right moment.

Hubert Burda Media bids a warm welcome to every BAMBI guest and looks forward to a festive award ceremony!
